JOB PROFILE RAILWAY SSE (SENIOR SECTION ENGINEER)
In this post, i have given information about job profile of Sr. Section Engineer ( SSE ) of Various departments of Indian Railways. SSEs are being posted everywhere in Railways. Accordingly there job profile varies department wise. Pre revised pay scale of SSE is Pay Band & GP (In Rs.)-9300-34800 & GP-4600. Required Medical Standard is A3.
1. Civil Engineering
Educational qualification for SSE post is following : -Four years Bachelor's Degree in (a) Civil Engineering OR (b) a combination of any sub stream of Basic streams
of Civil Engineering from a recognized University/ Institution.

Sr.Section Engineer/ P-Way This job is directly related to Permanent way means Railway Track maintenance.It is a field job of 24 hours.
Sr.Section Engineer/ Bridge This job is directly related to maintenance & new Construction of Railway Bridges.It is a field job of 24 hours.
Sr.Section Engineer (Works) This job is directly related to maintenance & new Construction of Railway Buildings.It is a field job of 24 hours.
Sr.Section Engineer Drawing (Civil) & Design & Estimation It is concern with Drawing,design & Estimation.For preparing any tender all three works are done.Job is office nature means 10-6 hours not 24 hours.
Sr.Section Research Engineer/Engg. It is concern with Research works in RDSO or any other Railway Research Institute.Job type is office nature means 10-6 hours not 24 hours.
Sr.Section Engineer (TMS) It is concern with Track Management System.Job type is Mixed means field & office nature both,depends upon your posting.
2. Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics Engineering
Educational qualification for direct recruitment for following SSE post is following : - Four years Bachelor's Degree in (a) Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics Engineering OR (b) a combination of any sub stream of basic streams of Mechanical / Electrical/ Electronics Engineering from a Recognized University/Institute. All candidates selected will however be borne on a Common cadre.
Post Nature of Job Sr.Section Engineer (Mechanical) (Workshop) It is concern with Railway Manufacturing and Maintenance Factory.Job type is shift duty in any one shift or rotational shift pattern.
Sr.Section Engineer Mechanical It is not categorized in any specialization. Means nature of job depends upon your posting C&W,DSL or Workshop.
Sr.Section Engineer (Carriage & Wagon) It is directly concern with Goods & Passenger Trains maintenance at nominated depots.Shift duty or can say 24 hour job.
Sr.Section Engineer / Dsl Mechanical It is directly concern with Engine maintenance at nominated depots.Shift duty or can say 24 hour job.
Sr.Section Engineer / Dsl Electrical It is directly concern with Engine maintenance at nominated depots.Shift duty or can say 24 hour job.
Sr.Section Engineer J&T (Jig & Tools) It is concern with Railway Manufacturing and Maintenance Factory.Job type is shift duty in any one shift or rotational type shift pattern.
Sr.Section Engineer (Drawing & Design) Mechanical It is concern with Drawing & design.Job is office nature means 10-6 hours not 24 hours.
Sr.Section Engineer Electrical/ Electrical (GS) It is general shift duty for maintenance of electricity supply at posted section.But nature of job is 24 hours.
Sr.Section Engineer Electrical (TRD) TRD-Traction Distribution. Maintenance of Locomotives in workshops.Shift Duty.
Sr.Section Engineer Electrical (TRS) TRS-Traction Rolling Stock. Maintenance of Locomotives in openline . 24 hour job in field.
Sr.Section Engineer (Electrical) / Workshop It is concern with Railway Manufacturing and Maintenance Factory.Job type is shift duty in any one shift or rotational type shift.
3. Electrical & Telecommunication Engineering

Sr.Section Engineer (S&T) Workshop It is concern with Railway Manufacturing and Maintenance Factory.Job type is shift duty in any one shift or rotational type pattern of shift.
Sr.Section Engineer Drawing/S&T It is basically Drawing & planning work for new projects.office duty.
Sr.Section Engineer / PCO/ Shop Floor It is concern with Railway Manufacturing and Maintenance Factory.Job type is shift duty in any one shift or rotational type shift pattern.

5. Degree In Engineering
Educational qualification for following SSE post is following : - Degree in Engineering in any discipline from a recognized Institution OR approved by AICTE.
